I’ve talked about how stressed I was because I needed to make a huge purchase of baby stuff from Amazon. I finally did that and even though I don’t like to see the money leave the bank, it is very stress relieving to know that we have all the “needs” for baby girl. I’ve updated you about what we’ve bought or been given and I wanted to continue and show you what we felt we needed when baby girl came. Be prepared though, this is kind of a long post.
We didn’t receive any bath items at our registry and had not bought any ourselves so we had to get everything. We purchased the Boon Naked Collapsible Bathtub in Pink. We choose this one because we didn’t want a giant baby bath that would take up a ton of space and constantly be in the way.
We also got the 4Moms Spout Cover, the Aquatopia Deluxe Easy Kneeler and a Munchkin Shampoo Rinser. I really wanted the spout cover because it comes with a built-in thermometer that tells you if the water is too hot. I had bought a few bath thermometers when the boys were baby that would just float in the bath but they always seemed to brake right away. I didn’t want to waste more money on them so when I saw this spout cover I knew it would work for us. The bath kneeler isn’t a must but I do know from experience that kneeler on the floor or even a rolled up towel isn’t comfortable. I also have a bad back so bending over while sitting on the toilet isn’t possible. So spending a little money to save my knees and back was well worth it.
We have all the sheets and blankets we need but one thing we didn’t have was swaddlers. We had used the Halo sleep sacks in the past but had heard that a new product called a Woombie was better. When I saw it I had wished I had known about them when Gray was a baby because they may have actually worked on him, unlike the Halo sleep sacks. When I looked at purchasing a Woombie they seemed so expensive at about $27 for 1. I just couldn’t justify it and figured we could live with using swaddle blankets at night. That’s when I stumbled upon the Comfort & Harmony Woombie Perfect Peanut Swaddle. They were only about $12 for 1 on Amazon so I ordered 2 in the Dozing Daisies print.
Although we did get a lot of diaper items at our baby shower, we didn’t get everything we needed. The biggest was a changing pad. We also needed covers for the changing pad and a wipe warmer. Not to mention an actual diaper bag for when we are out of the house. We just got an simple Summer Infant Contour Changing pad with 1 yellow and 1 pink Summer Infant Changing Pad Cover. All three are pretty basic but kind of needed for diaper changes, which happen a lot with new babies.
I also got the Prince Lionheart Ultimate Wipes Warmer. I choose this one because I had read and watched several reviews that this warmer worked with both disposable and cloth wipes. This was really important because while the baby is a newborn we do plan to use disposable diapers and wipes and when she has gained a little more weight we will start to use our cloth diapers and wipes. I didn’t want to get a wipe warmer that would only work for one or the other so I choose this one.
Since diaper bags are kind of “must have’s” if you want to leave the house with a new baby we needed one. With both boys we tried several different bags, some of that even real diaper bags, but none of them worked for us. Either they were just one giant pocket that everything gets thrown into that you can’t really organize or it had a million useless pockets that you lose things in. This time around I did a ton of research, watching video reviews and reading articles, just to find the perfect diaper bag. I had finally narrowed it down to one that I thought would be good and made Nick watch a video review to see what he thought. He loved it so I bought it. We decided on the Ju Ju Be Be Right Back diaper bag in the Tokidoki print Iconic. I love this bag and I think the print is so fun and out there. I made sure Nick would actually use this bag before I got it and he really liked the print as well. If this diaper bag ends up not working like all the rest I will probably cry.
I had to purchase several things in this section, which is surprising because I plan to breastfeed baby girl just like I did with her brothers. I already have a Medela breast pump but when I went through all the items for it I realized I needed a few parts. One being more membranes for it pump, as well as some breastmilk bags and breastmilk freezer bottles.
We also needed a bottle warmer that could safely reheat breastmilk and some bottles just in case I have to leave baby girl with her dad for a while. The membranes, breastmilk bags and bottles are all the Medela brand that I know work with my pump. I decided to splurge on the Kiinde Kozii Bottle Warmer because I wanted to make sure that anything that went into my baby was properly and safely made. I know my breastmilk is safe but it needs to be the a safe temperature for her. Not hot enough to burn her or leach toxins from the plastic it’s in and not cold. Now, the bottles we got are the Mimijumi Breastfeeding Bottles which are phthalate, latex, lead and BPA free so I’m not too worried about leaching toxins but still, better safe than sorry. These bottles are supposed to be one of the best breastfeeding bottles out there, with a realistic look, feel and flow. It was really important that she not have nipple confusion since I plan to breastfeed for the first year so these bottles were a must.
We only needed one piece of gear and it was a baby swing. For a long time I went back and forth if we really needed a swing. Then, after deciding we probably did, I went back and forth deciding if we should get a small space saving swing or just get a full size swing. Finally I found one that wouldn’t take up a huge foot print in our house but would work longer than a few months. We got the Graco Glider LX Swing in Allison. I wanted something that didn’t just run on batteries but wasn’t going to be huge and after reading reviews this one sounded perfect. I think baby girl will enjoy her time in it, I know I would if I could fit.
We didn’t need much in this section because we already have so much stuff from the boys but we did need a new grooming kit. It has been years since I’ve needed tiny combs, nail clippers and nasal aspirators. We got the Safety 1st Deluxe Grooming Kit.
All we needed for the stroller was the car seat adapters so we could clip the car seat into the stroller. Pretty simple and basic but much needed if we plan to use the stroller as a travel system.
