Sadhana: Walking the Joyful Path
Reflect on your path in life from the inside out. What influences have been the most effective in expanding your awareness? Write down the three most important, such as an inspiring friend or family member, uplifting literature, a spiritual guide, a mentor, a situation where you acquired any of the qualities of the true self, such as love, peace, creativity, compassion, personal evolution, etc. Now journal about new ways to increase that inspiration.
In the 6th grade a teacher of mine gave me a notebook to use as a journal and ever since then I have been writing. I’ve filled more notebooks with my thoughts and point of view than I know what to do with. I think that writing has influenced me the most. I go back every once in a while and read what I wrote years ago and I realize that I was more aware at that present time that I ever gave myself credit for. I worked through and became aware of myself so much by journaling.
Within the last few years I’ve been better about identifying things that I think are “issues” in my life and then finding some good books to help me out. Not all of them are specifically self-help books but I find reading books to help me solve a problem or to better organize myself has been very enlightening.
The last thing that I think has been one of the biggest influences is life experience. I’ve always been one that has to learn the hard way. I’ve thrown myself into some pretty hairy situations and sometimes life just dealt them to me but either way I haven’t learned more about myself any other way.
