About a month ago I wrote a post about how I wanted to flip my current kitchen into my dream kitchen; it was called Dream House Series: Kitchen and Dining Room. I want to keep the series going, and the next room on the list is my daughter Dessa’s room. Her bedroom is next because it was the easiest for us to flip.
The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
I have to say that Dessa’s room isn’t horrible. The only thing that was an eyesore was the paint color. I understand that before we bought our home, this was a little boys room. With that, lime green would not have been my first choice or even in the running for a paint color for my boys. It has to go.
Other than that, the only thing her room needs is furniture, decor and an updated light fixture and new closet doors. The carpet is still in decent shape, but there are plans to replace all the carpet in the house in a few years.
The Dream Bedroom
First order of business is paint. I decided on a very soft pink for the wall. I want something sweet, whimsical and girly. I chose Behr’s Blowing Kisses for all her walls, but before we can paint, we have to get rid of the green by priming. I’m hoping we have enough time to finish the painting in a week.
Besides the paint, we need closet doors for her room since her’s are outdated and broken. Right now she has bi-folding doors that are very dated and broken. The closet doors probably will be the last thing done in her room, but it’s nice to have an idea of what I want. I also want a new bedroom door and new trim, but I’m not sure I can convince Nick to do that right now. I think those last three things will be done together at a much later date.
Furniture has been much more straightforward to pick out. Before leaving Seattle, we had gotten rid of Dessa’s crib set, so the only furniture she has is a mattress and her plaid chair. That means we are either building or buying her new furniture.
While I was at Ikea, I picked up a Trava 6-drawer dresser for her. I plan to paint it with Behr’s Crystal Rapids and put new drawer pulls on it. The paint matches her new bedspread perfectly. I also found her drawer pulls on Amazon which was more convenient than going to the store and seeing what they had.
Finding a light fixture that I like and would work has been torture. I want a small, wooden chandelier. I saw one at World Market that I like, but I don’t love. I want one that is just raw, light-colored wood and not something that is stained dark or whitewashed.
That’s all I have for idea’s right now. I’m hoping to start and finish this project soon. I know some things will have to wait but if I can get the majority concluded would be nice.
