In the beginning of 2016 I decided to choose one word to focus on for the year. The word I picked was “forward” because at the end of 2015 I found myself concentrating too much on the past and I needed to let go and focus on moving forward. In the past year I really feel like I have move forward and let go of many things.
I found myself not hating the city I lived in because of what had happened there. I made more of an effort to reconnect to my friends and family. I tried to forge a better relationship with my husband and I made a conscious effort to just let it all go.
Now that 2016 has come to a close and 2017 has begun it is time to pick one word for 2017. This years word was not as easy or clear to me but after thinking about it a lot, I have decided.
One Word for 2017: Appreciation
For 2017 my word is “appreciation.” When I was deciding on a word I couldn’t quite find one that encompassed everything I was thinking of. I had a clear understanding of what I was thinking but not the actual word for it.
At first I thought of the word “peace.” I wanted to find peace within myself and where I was at in life. When I looked up the definition though, it just didn’t seem to fit. Then I looked up “love.” I wanted to love myself more, love the life I was living and love the people in it more. That is when I saw the word appreciation.
I read the definitions and knew it was the word I was looking for.
How I’m going to appreciate more in 2017
I have always been the person that needs a clear plan of action so I’m going to lay out how I’m going to appreciate more in the next year.
- I’m going to continue writing in my gratitude journal like I have been doing for the past 2 years.
- I’m going to say “thank you” more.
- I’m going to spend less time in front of a screen and more time with the people I love and care about.
- I’m going to appreciate my body more and take better care of it.
- I’m going to do a better job of appreciating the people in my life by nurturing my relationships more.
I’m so glad 2016 is over and that 2017 is bringing a new beginning. 2016 was a difficult year but I am most certain that 2017 will be the start of a really good thing.
