Unlike most years, this year I actually got to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Not only did I get to celebrate the day but I got to celebrate the entire weekend! With the kids visiting in Alaska I was able to do whatever I wanted, when I wanted and it was such a nice treat.
Friday after we dropped the kids off at the airport we went to Ikea. Not really because I needed anything but because I never get to go without rushing through because of the kids. And because it is on the way home from the airport so it’s not like I couldn’t go. I had too. I did however get a few things. I hit up there paper shop section for some sticky notes and a new notebook. The I figured I needed a little box to put all my new sticky notes in, right?
After that I grabbed a rice bowl at Chipotle, because every once in a while I need to be a basic bitch. Then it was off to Target where I had to sneak away to pick up some Valentine’s gifts. But while I was there I scored some awesome deals in the dollar spot and in the boys clearance section. I got #1 some new shirts, a sweater and a pair of jeans. He did not care one bit. Then I picked up some stationary stuff in the dollar spot which I plan to sell over a facebook group I belong too. I have to make that money somehow. After Target I was so wiped out from all the walking and shopping I had to go home and rest.
At around 6 o’clock I headed out with my hubby to dinner. I was super excited because we were going to The Crab Pot, which is a restaurant I have wanted to try since we moved to Seattle almost 18 months ago. I really wanted to try this restaurant because 1) I love seafood, especially crab and 2) You get to smash your food with a little wooden mallet! What adult wouldn’t want to play with their food a little bit. We had to wait 45 minutes before we were seated because they don’t take reservations but that was fine because I was still a little full from lunch. Once we were seated we ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms and the Alaska feast, which had king crab, dungeness crab, snow crab, clams, mussels, shrimp, andouille sausage, corn on the cob and red potatoes. I smothered mine in butter and it was amazing! The only down side is that our waiter forgot to bring us the stuffed mushrooms and the shrimp still had their heads on! That made it a little weird to eat (they were all watching me eat their friends!).
After dinner we headed out to meetup with friends but quickly realized we were too full. So we hung out for half and hour and then headed home. We ended the night by almost immediately passing out into a food coma. It was the perfect night.
Then on Saturday we woke up late and headed to brunch at a little cafe on Alki Beach called Ampersand. We both got the bread pudding french toast and I got a mocha while the hubs got an espresso. It was divine and super filling. I couldn’t finish the last bite but I really, really wanted too.
After our yummy brunch we headed to the mall out in Bellevue to drop my MacBook off at the Apple Store. So, after dropping Maxine off we headed over to Victoria’s Secret because this girl needed new bras that actually fit! But, little did I know that they were having a sale and some awesome Valentine’s Day deals so I scooped up a bunch of bras and panties and in return for spending my hard earned cash they gave me a $20 gift card. Well worth the 20 minutes I spent waiting in line. Then I had to go to Lush to get more bubble bars. I absolutely love their bubble bars. They make my tub overflow with luxurious bubbles and make my skin feel silky smooth. I picked up 3 and I can’t wait to try them out.
After all that shopping my feet were to tired to go on so we decided to head home for more down time. We decided movies and Chinese take-out was the way to go. With our beef noodles and moo shu pork in hand we watched Pacific Rim (not bad) and Thor: The Dark World (not good). After filling our bellies and watching as much as we could handle we passed out again.
Then on Sunday we woke up rested and decided to head to a new internet cafe called Hotwire. I got a coffee called a dark orange kiss which was a dark chocolate mocha infused with orange. So yummy. We sat there and talked and planned the next week when I was surprised by the hubby with another delicious coffee. This one was called the honey pot (hehe) and it was even better than my first coffee. It was coffee mixed with honey and lavender. I could drink one everyday for the rest of my life and still love that coffee. So good!
After we were well caffeinated we headed over to my brother-in-laws house to meet his new girlfriend and to go to the Pacific Science Center to see an exhibit on Pompeii. We couldn’t get in to see the exhibit until 5:30, it was 3:30 when we bought the tickets, so we decided to grab a late lunch/early dinner at a near by revolving sushi bar. Once again everything was super yummy and it was happy hour so very affordable too. After lunner (lunch, dinner) we went back to see the exhibit which was filled with amazing artifacts, pictures, and information. The had old furniture, painting and even casts of the people who died during the Mount Vesuvius eruption. I thought it was really interesting and really enjoyed learning everything I did. I would highly recommend seeing it if you live in the Seattle area. We left the exhibit around 7:30 and then headed home to watch more movies and cuddle. It was a nice and easy day.
On Monday, because I got a long weekend, the hubby had to work so I planned a spa day with the gift card my sister B gave me for Christmas. I got a one-hour facial and a lip and brow waxing. The facial was great and just what I needed. The waxing I could have done without but it needed to be done. I am half Italian after all and we are a hairy breed. After work was over the hubs made me gumbo and we watched more movies. We never get a chance to watch movies because the kids have trouble going to bed so they are always up interrupting us.
And that is it. That was my Valentine’s Day weekend! I actually got to have a super nice, fun and relaxing weekend on a romantic holiday. It was nice and I hope this isn’t the last time I get to do something like this. I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day too.
